Multitracks. I really enjoy studio time and seeing the vision of a project being fulfilled beyond expectations. It is part of what I continue to do, and I love it.
[ WM ] On the worship platform, what role do you see yourself playing?
[ Isaac ]
It is a hard question. I’ ve felt compelled to actually not treat it as a platform but more a place of offering and sacrifice. My role has been simplified to serve and provide a table for people to hear from God, to express their adoration, and to experience healing. This is non-negotiable for me, no matter how big or small the“ stage” or the“ platform” is.
[ WM ] Describe your rehearsal strategy. What does a successful rehearsal look like to you?
[ Isaac ] We have a system at Jesus Culture— we expect our musicians to come prepared with parts from the album for each song. During our soundchecks / rehearsals, we aim to get our ears dialed, polish, and go over anything that’ d deviate from record parts. A successful rehearsal doesn’ t get my team tired but gives them expectation for what’ s coming. We don’ t lay it all out, but we seek direction and planning. Preparation is a big thing for this— the rest is an adventure with Jesus.
[ WM ] Can you list two or three worship albums that inspire your own worship keys playing?
[ Isaac ]
Oh man, total 90s worship in Latin America, an album named— Cerca de Ti by Jesús Adrián. Later on probably I Heart Revolution by Hillsong United. For the Sake of the World and You Make Me Brave by Bethel … Live in New York by Jesus Culture.
[ WM ] Outline your‘ live rig’ on stage for us. Keyboards, software, tracks you use … basically everything.
[ Isaac ]
Very simple:( All my sounds come from the box / laptop)
Nord Piano( not Stage), which I use just as a MIDI controller and backup piano if I ever need it( very rare). Love the surface space and simplicity on that one.
Ableton Live as a DAW.
I sample all my pads and atmospheres from my studio synths.
Pianos— I go in between Alicia Keys and Keyscape. Tons of modding to land in the sounds I love.
Novation Launch Control for all my Ableton mapping.
[ WM ] Do you have any gear endorsements?
[ Isaac ] My social media presence and posting isn’ t the best, but I was with Nord for several years. I currently have a deal with Arturia.
[ WM ] Do you have some words of encouragement or advice for other worship keys players?
[ Isaac ] Set yourself apart. Get inspired by what others are doing, but don’ t let comparison blind you from who you are. Chase what actually inspires you from within and nurture it with time and effort. Allow time to get to know yourself and your expression as a player. That— and knowing who you are in humility— will make a huge difference in your expression and worship.
