KEYS + PRODUCING Isaac Gonzalez
[ WM ] Tell us about how you got started playing keys?

[ Isaac Gonzalez ] It was actually kind of a funny and powerful dream my Dad had when I was 8 years old. He saw me playing the piano with a mustache, which I am currently NOT rocking. Quickly got put into lessons— I wasn’ t into it. The teacher had a bunch of organs and her house was kinda dark and creepy. But really, I just wanted to play drums, so it took a little bit of a push by my parents to actually learn to love the piano. Once I did, you couldn’ t get me out of learning songs and playing at every church service. Also, after that, I was allowed to play drums, which was awesome too. My parents’ fire started it all.
[ WM ] Who were your main keys influences?
[ Isaac ]
I grew up playing at church in Latin America, and the reference at the time was a worship leader named Marcos Witt. He used to lead while playing a Korg 01 / W and always used the same electric piano patch, which I got into at a young age. Around that time, there were also guys like Tom Brooks with Integrity Music, and Tim Jupp’ s atmospheres with Delirious also sparked curiosity. I had a gospel / jazz era, and Aaron Lindsey I think played a big part in what I learned from it at that time. I’ d listen a lot to a Latin jazz piano player named Michel Camilo. Paul Meany from Mutemath, Tim Rice from Keane.
[ WM ] Do you play keys outside of the church? Do any session work? Producing?

[ Isaac ] Yes, I’ ve had the opportunity to travel in the US and internationally to play with several worship artists that I really respect and admire— a lot of them from Jesus Culture.
I have produced / engineered / played on several albums in both the U. S. and Latin America, won a Dove Award, and been nominated for a Grammy. I have a few keys libraries with
