[ Todd ] My advice for any drum / percussion player is to serve the song and use space as much as any other drum in your kit . When it ’ s the sum of the whole versus a one man show , the end result is much more powerful .

SHAKERS My go-to shakers are ones that I have refilled with different things . Store bought shakers I like are LP and Toca brand shakers usually . Also , Brazilian Caxixi basket shakers are a staple for me . I make “ clusters ” with pieces of copper pipe , empty bullet casings , etc . These are great for setting on the kit to create more textured sounds , as well as shaking .
