[ WM ] You have a unique perspective of playing and making Christian music in two different cultures – Spanish and English . Tell us some of the benefits of that ?
[ Mike ] I have learned that we all have something unique to offer up . So I try to impart my feeling and interpretation without making it about myself . In either culture I ’ ve understood if I ’ m being asked to collaborate , it ’ s because they are seeking something I bring to the table . But I would always prefer to be asked to play more than play less . I love that being involved with so many different genres of music , it truly teaches us to be as versatile as possible .
[ WM ] Words of encouragement or advice for other worship team bass players ?
[ Mike ] Be passionate about the gift God gave you . Devout time to it . A bassist can make or break the band . Guitarists and keys players can get away with floating around the main key , but when a bass player hits a wrong note or in the wrong time , everyone turns around .
But one step further , in worship and with our calling , we must always remember we have been chosen . But we must decide what we do with that calling . Having talent is great but is only part of the equation . The other side of that
