From Brian Wampler’ s team of effects gurus we received the new The Compulsion Drive( tcd) and Golden Jubilee Pedals for review. As many WM readers, and myself included, have owned and played a multitude of the Wampler effects over the years. And Brian is a tone seeker like the rest of us.
The Compulsion Drive( tcd) is styled after another popular legacy guitar pedal that goes by three initials also( OCD). The pedal from the past is great but not very versatile. Wampler’ s The Compulsion Drive features a three band EQ on top, level and gain control and a mode mini switch. When the mini is down the pedal is in the regular gain structure, but when you flip it up the sound is in your face with a cutting edge and MOSFET gain. Plus, inside of the pedal you have two internal dip switches to tweak the sound with the Fat switch or the Diode switch. Plugged into an amp I found The Compulsion Drive to be very articulate and provide warmer overdrive in the down position and Rock tones in the up. The internal dip switches make this pedal sound even more massive but also allow you to tame the bass frequencies more. From low drive to wide open the tcd pedal delivers multiple pedal sounds in one device and is a winner at $ 199.97.
