[ WM ] Can you name one challenge you have faced in ministry and how have you grown through it?
[ Canaan ] I have served on staff at my church for 9 years now! A challenge I have faced over the years, and again recently, is how to continue to catch fresh vision and self-start( especially when things seem to be going well). How can I make sure I’ m not coasting off of previous wins and momentous seasons, but growing NOW and leading my team in how they need to be led TODAY. The first place I turn( or the place I aspire to turn first), is prayer. God will give fresh vision and timely direction for us and our teams when we seek Him. Secondly, an important question I come back to is,“ What are ways I can platform and create new opportunities for team members that I haven’ t thought of before?” This keeps us from becoming stagnant in the current norm, even if it’ s the best place your church / team has ever been in! For my church, that resulted in launching live worship in our kid’ s ministry when historically it had been the kid’ s pastors singing along to lyric videos( which is great). That opened up more room to add team members and empower up and coming worship leaders.
[ WM ] Do you have words of encouragement to fellow worship leaders, worship bands and audio teams who serve week in and week out at their local church?
[ Canaan ] It can be so easy to believe that the grass is greener in another field! In particular when things are difficult. I’ d encourage you, unless God is clearly calling you elsewhere, to stick through hard or stagnant seasons in your church! The Church needs more pastors / leaders to stay in one place longer than a couple of years. I’ d argue you can’ t really build something until you’ ve been in a place a few years … and some of the greatest breakthrough comes on the other side of preserving in hard circumstances! Be a builder!
