I get excited each time I get the opportunity to review a Rainsong guitar . Why ? Because we have history together ! In the late 1990 ’ s I went to Maui and after snorkeling in the bright morning sunshine , I cleaned up and headed my rental car in the direction of the RainSong guitars facility . Of course , an afternoon downpour of a rain shower is not surprising to find either in Maui and these abrupt weather changes are exactly what inspired inventor Dr . John Decker in the first place . Decker had an extensive background in physics , specifically in plasma physics . He set out with luthier Lorenzo Pimentel to create a guitar that was impervious to the weather changes of Hawaii and beyond . Thus , the first carbon fiber guitar company was born .
I arrived at RainSong and Dr . Decker gave me a personal tour of the plant explaining to me that carbon fiber is “ lighter than wood and stronger than steel ”. I saw the vacuum injection molds and the entire process of how each RainSong guitar was made . Dr . Decker taught me how Projection Tuned Layering gave his guitars the clarity of tone and how the woven carbon top responds so well to your strumming or fingerpicking .
The abalone rosettes were beautiful , and the abalone shark inlays brought the Hawaiian wildlife into the vibe of the guitar . I had a
