WLM | my Wyoming craving
WLM: Have you had a particularly
memorable or unique experience while
photographing Wyoming?
CB: Every photograph is a memorable
experience; it is a moment in time
that you will never be able to go
back to. The moment is gone, just
like that: the lighting changed, the
animal is no longer in the scene, the
clouds are different, the wind caused
something to move, the variables are
endless. There are some photographs I
have taken which I later learned were
failures, moments I will never be able
to recapture. Painful as each failure is
though, I learned something new each
time. You have to go out and fail, time
and again, learn and then move on.
Then there are the moments where I
have taken the photo and the results
exceeded my very own expectations.
WLM: Many of your images are
accompanied by a poem or saying you’ve
created. What has inspired your writing?
CB: My writing is an extension of my
photography; it is my opportunity to
express what I felt when I captured the
scene or what I was feeling when I later
viewed the photograph. Often times,
my mind has chosen the words as I set
up the shot. A picture may be worth a
thousand words, but do those words
describe what I felt, or what I saw when I
pressed the shutter release …
