Wildlife Wonders over this part in the world was shortly after the last of
these gatherings in 1878.
Step Back in Time The communities of Crowheart, Dubois, Hudson,
Lander, Pavillion, Riverton, Shoshoni, and the Wind
River Indian Reservation have dedicated themselves
to providing their guests with authentic, safe,
unforgettable experiences in Wyoming’s Wind River
Country. Embrace the Western hospitality, dive into
our rich culture, and enjoy having room to breathe
during the event of 2017 that everyone will want
to attend. W L M
If you’d like to combine star gazing with wildlife
spotting, the National Bighorn Sheep Interpretive
Center’s Wildlife Wonders Solar Eclipse Weekend
in Dubois will keep you engaged all hours of the
weekend. Participate in star-viewing parties, a
variety of educational events, hikes and tours to see
everything from the Whiskey Mountain Bighorn
Sheep to petroglyphs.
Walk in Kit Carson’s footsteps,
gaze upon the same stars he did.
In the 1830s, mountain men
worked their way out of the
woods and mountains to meet up
with traders from back east and
their Native American neighbors
to sell their hard-fought beaver
pelts, stock up on essential
supplies, and celebrate surviving
another harsh and lonely year
in the Wind River Mountains.
Today, this gathering -- Riverton’s
1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous
-- is reenacted each year in
July on the very site where it
first occurred. On August 21,
mountain man reenactors will
return to the Rendezvous city
in full costume and ready to
demonstrate and teach their
authentic skills. Try your hand at
flint-napping, hatchet and knife-
throwing, see black-powder rifle
shooting, and more. Take in the
Wind River Eclipse with a unique
perspective on history -- the last
time a total solar eclipse passed
