What you simply cannot do without in WKW Words by Aisha Lin & Alisius Leong Tips For Freshies 1 MacBook Pro The minute you walk into the LFLT, you’ll be overwhelmed by the sea of Apple logos MacBook Pros galore! That’s right, because most of the programmes we use here in WKW are best compatible with MacBooks, such as video editing software Final Cut Pro. Macs have become so much a part of WKW that it qualifies as a common identity amongst us. Anyway, what is uni life without laptops? We tech-savvy WeeKids cannot even fathom it. Morning lectures are the bane of our existence. So don’t forget to drop by Starbucks for a perk-me-up to ensure a more productive and bearable hour ahead. Whether you are in the Newsplex churning out the next issue of The Nanyang Chronicle, or perfecting your CS2006 video, a cuppa will give you that extra boost, to make it all worth it at the end. Coffee 2 Clothing 3 5 Media Social WeeKids LOVE to dress up. We are especially game during our Theme Weeks. Who can forget Geek Day, Back To School Week or Beach Day? You can always count on us to be dressed for any occasion, even if it’s just CS2008 lecture. Don’t be shy about overdressing. A chiffon maxi dress? Glittered Dr. Martens? Floralprinted Oxford shirts? You name it, Wee’ve got it - and Wee are not afraid to flaunt it! 4 But of course, what’s a party without... beer? (Cheers to that!) You can be sure to see a couple of bottles of beer lying around during any WKW event like Homecoming and Talentime. After all, what better way to get everyone chilled out after a long day of lectures, tutorials and project work? Don’t worry if you’re a lightweight, we won’t forget the soda. Beer Facebook, Twitter, Instagram - they’re practically bookmarked on all WeeKids’ web browsers and opened on their phones. Beware when you leave your Macs unattended, you could very well be the next victim of a ‘facejack’. Also, a little bird (i.e. Wee Kee the lil’ bird, @weekimwee) told us that Twitter is used as a platform for discussion during lecture time - questions, answers and all. It could be true, or just be a rumour - you’ll just have to hop onto Twitter yourself to find out! 37
