“ For many that day, Halloween was fun, games, and dressing up, but for Shahrin and I, it was somewhat stressful, albeit fulfilling when we managed to put brilliant smiles on the faces of our friends. Preparing for Halloween was a tedious process. Not only did we have to think up the route and the types of ghosts for the haunted trail, we had to think of ways to keep the people waiting for their turn entertained as well. (We had photo booths set up for them and provided drinks and chips for them while they hung around the benches.) The most difficult part of all these had to be preparing for the haunted trail, we had to look for eerie music to be played during the trail and I just left that task to Shahrin. I was so creeped out by it as we were having most of our discussions past midnight. To create the haunted trail, apart from the eerie music that was played in the stairwells, we upped the creepy factor by covering the lighting with red cellophane paper. Of course, make-up for the haunted trail team unsurprisingly required much time and preparation. The haunted trail team did an impeccable job bringing the trail to ‘life’. A big thank you to Amirah, the zombie; Ayeshah, the mother who lost her baby; and Mu Yao, the ex-lover murderer. The star of that day would definitely be the zombie, played by Amirah, who probably made more people laugh than cry. In fact, that would be the most challenging issue while getting Halloween done in WKW— everyone knows one another and it’s just difficult to scare these familiar faces. On the contrary, it’s likely that the people preparing for it were the ones most freaked out. Halloween in Singapore may commonly be thought of as lacklustre compared to the overthe-top celebrations in the West. Yet at WKW, Halloween was a blast all thanks to the WKW peeps who’re just amazing. “ 17 The star of that day would definitely be the zombie, played by Amirah, who probably made more people laugh than cry.
