Bringing Hope, Strength & Joy Chelsea’s cherished wish gets picked up by The Cairns Post. CHELSEA’S CHERISHED WISH BRINGS LASTING STRENGTH AND JOY Sixteen-year-old Chelsea was diagnosed with fibromyxoid sarcoma in early 2013. by Chelsea’s wish and had some words of support for the budding musician. As if being a teenager isn’t hard enough, she had to endure major surgery and weeks of radiation treatment to combat the disease. Her love of music, especially that of her favourite musician, John Butler, helped get her through a tough past year. When Chelsea’s wish to have a guitar just like the one Butler plays recently came true, she received a very special bonus – a personal video message from the man himself. “I hope you can feel that love, because I’m sending it to you,” he said, wishing her luck with her playing and offering “prayers, laughter, happiness and goodness.” Butler, who couldn’t be there to deliver the custommade 11-string Maton guitar in person, was honoured Volunteer Newsletter | Issue 3 2014 Chelsea, now clear of her illness, is looking forward to teaching herself more of Butler’s songs on her new guitar. The brave teen has a lifetime ahead of her to learn, as well as a precious reminder of her hero’s support that she can turn to for inspiration and strength. ■ Page 9
