ALICE SPRINGS SWIMATHON MAKES A SPLASH
The Alice Springs Branch held a fantastic fundraising event on 5 - 6 April which saw nine teams battle it out
in a Swimathon for Make-A-Wish.
The first-time event was a great success. The original target was $2,000 but by incorporating Team Wish the
teams raised more than $25,000 for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Participants showed up at the Aquatic Centre ready to swim through the night, with the event kicking off at
7pm and running through to 7am.
Teams swam a combined 296 kilometres, with some individuals swimming as far as 13 kilometres.
While plans are in the works to make this an annual event, up next for the Alice Springs Branch is their Ties,
Tiaras, Wings and Wands fundraising gala on 23 August.
We’d like to say a big thank you to the volunteers and community in Alice Springs for your fantastic effort. ■
RILEY CONQUERS MT. CORAMBA FOR WISHES
When 11-year-old Riley, who has cerebral palsy,
heard of the event organised by Coffs Harbour
volunteers to climb Mt. Coramba to raise
money for Make-A-Wish, he was determined to
join them.

Up for the challenge, Riley’s dad had his wheelchair
modified and they started training. Last month, Riley
conquered the mountain and raised over $1,700 for
Make-A-Wish. The climb attracted participants and
supporters of all ages, with everyone getting into the
spirit of the event, and some energetic participants
making the climb twice!
Congratulations to the Coffs Harbour volunteers and
everyone involved on your triumphant ascent! ■
