In the year
1964, Nehru
died and he
was in post
at that time.
After his death, it was big
question for India about the
next prime minister. Then,
K.Kamaraju, the president of
Congress Party decided to
appoint Shastri as next prime
minister. Shastri elevated his
values and ethics even as
Shastri got the name “Man
of peace”. Shastri declared
ceasefire with Pakistan.
He wanted peace in nation
and not aggression or
violence. After he took this
decision, he also signed
the declaration
of Tashkent. Not
just this, he was
a “man of peace”
when he had to
take a decision
as a responsible
leader.
Lal Bahadur Shastri was
the one who started Green
Revolution when India was
facing food shortage. He also
expressed his respect for
nation’s farmers and soldiers
by creating a slogan “Jai Jawan
and Jai Kisan”.
Shastri attended
a summit along
with Pakistani
President
Muhammad Ayub
Khan in Tashkent.
They both signed
On 10 January
1966, Shastri
and Khan signed
the Tashkent Declaration.
The very next day, Shastri
died of heart attack. His
death is called a mystery
and believed that he was
poisoned to death as his
dead body turned to blue.
