Volleyball Fundraisers
WSD vs. Abundant Life 18–25, 13–25, 20–25
During the Homecoming weekend the WSD volleyball team undertook fundraisers. The first fundraiser was hosted by the class
of 1985. The members of that class raised funds on their own and
donated hundreds of dollars after playing a match consisting of
female members of the class of 1985 against the 2010 WSD volleyball team. The 2010 WSD volleyball team easily dispatched
the alumni and in the process earned several hundreds of dollars
worth of donations.
The second fundraiser during the Homecoming weekend was
called Serv-a-Thon. The volleyball players agree to serve for
several hours on Sunday to meet their quota of serve hits on the
opposing court. Each area on the opposing court cost different amounts. Each player went around asking people to donate
various amounts of money for serve hits on different areas of the
opposing court. That fundraiser, combined with the volleyball
match against the class of 1985 alumni, earned WSD volleyball
team $1,864, far surpassing their goal of $1,000.
The purpose of the fundraisers was to send the entire volleyball team to California for team volleyball camp. This camp in
California is not for individuals. It is for teams and is designed
to train the entire team. The camp in California accepts only 10
Deaf teams from all over the nation. WSD is greatly honored to
be one of 10 teams invited to that camp.
