AN INTERVIEW WITH CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST KATIE HAYES

Wirral’ s own young entrepreneur Katie Hayes is founder of the successful Liverpool based company, Kate Hayes Academy. With eight years makeup experience Katie is one of the best in the business, with an already extensive celebrity clientele and top demand from brides around the world. The beauty and makeup academy offers courses to suit everyone and are often fully booked months in advance. Here Katie talks to Wirral Life’ s Annabel Birtles about her business, her love for the Wirral, and passion for beauty and makeup.
Can you tell us about the Kate Hayes Academy? The Kate Hayes Academy is my dream come true. Personally, I wanted to create a space where anybody of any age and background could come and confidently learn all types of makeup styles and beauty treatments. My team and I dedicate all we can to provide our students with the best possible training and to ensure everyone leaves feeling confident and inspired in whatever they choose to learn.
How did Kate Hayes Academy come to life? I began my training at Liverpool’ s community college and from there I went to work in a makeup salon. During my time in the salon, I began my own makeup masterclasses and one-to-one lessons- I would teach up to 8 lessons a day. After 5 years at the salon I decided to take a jump and venture out on my own. I started freelance for 2 months until I saved up enough money to rent a small room in The Secret Warehouse where I began my own masterclasses and lessons for aspiring makeup artists. Within 8 months, I had an amazing team of 7 located within 7 rooms offering all types of makeup, hair and beauty training. It has been 2 and a half years since we opened our doors and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. We have big plans for 2018.
As such an inspiration to girls around the country— who is you biggest inspiration? There was no one in particular who inspired me as I have always had such a passion for this industry and to succeed in everything I do. My goal is to help young girls live their potential and become the stars of their own show.
Congratulations on behalf of Wirral Life for your incredible success— what are your plans for the future?
The aim is to keep growing the Academy by opening more around the country and even globally one day- we have such an amazing teaching strategy for our students which I didn ' t have when I was younger. You have always got to aim big and set goals for yourself, this way you will always achieve them.
Did you ever anticipate this much success? No, absolutely not. You have always got to stay humble and push yourself to become more successful. Never settle and always aim high. I am a strong believer in the Law of Attraction and would highly recommend to anyone considering opening a business.
Tell us about your latest business adventures. As a global makeup artist I travel all over the world and I already have 8 weddings booked abroad next year. I am planning a lot of work in Dubai and after Christmas we are opening a new Kate Hayes Academy which is incredibly exciting- the location is yet to be revealed!
Where has been you favourite place to travel for a wedding? Definitely Santorini and Lake Como- the wedding was next to George Clooney’ s house.
What has been your biggest accomplishment? Everything I do is an accomplishment to me, but what really makes me proud is the messages I receive from girls and their parents telling me what a role model I am to them. Being able to help people achieve their dreams is an amazing feeling along with travelling all over the world— I am very lucky.
What would be your ultimate achievement? To have a Kate Hayes Academy in every city of course!
What is you favourite makeup hack? Always add highlighter to the bow of the lips, through the nose and on top of the cheek bones- this will give your face a natural glow and automatically makes your face look radiant and thinner.
Now I know you have previously launched your own makeup brand and products, can you tell us about this? My makeup range is based on my favourite high end products
