DON M C CULLIN EXHIBITION AT THE TATE
Don McCullin ( b . 1935 ) is one of the most legendary living British photographers .
A retrospective of his work at Tate Liverpool ( 16 September 2020 – 9 May 2021 ) features more than 200 photographs , following his career from coverage of major conflict in Vietnam , Northern Ireland and Syria , to images capturing scenes of poverty and working-class life in the industrial North and his native East End , to the meditative landscapes taken where he now lives in Somerset . Especially for the Liverpool show , McCullin revisited his darkroom and printed many never before seen images of Liverpool during the 1960s and 70s , which document the harsh deprivation faced by the city and its people .
Alongside McCullin ’ s hand-printed silver gelatin prints , the exhibition also includes the photographer ’ s magazine spreads , contact sheets , his helmet and the Nikon camera which took a bullet for him in Cambodia .
