Lizzo
Oh Lizzo , I absolutely bow to you . Not my type of music at all but to get up on a stage and have that much confidence , being that overweight in my eyes is incredible . As a big woman myself , it is daunting to put yourself in the firing line in day-to-day life , never mind on stage in front of millions around the world . Lizzo does not care one jot . She immerses herself in none stop showmanship , absolutely socking it to the crowd . Her bad bitch dance moves are accompanied by her incredible vocal range , twerking and a flute solo ! Very entertaining and the crowd loved her . She must have felt so emotional up there remembering the last time she played Glasto to absolutely no one ! Good for you ! You go girl !
Pretenders
Chrissie Hynde sounded exactly the same , if not better than she always did . She looked amazing and hit every note . She rocked out on that stage . No gimmicks , well-balanced sound just good old-fashioned rock ‘ n ’ roll .
LEWIS CAPALDI
My only disappointment with The Pretenders set was that they didn ’ t do Brass in Pocket , a personal favourite . They could have been performing in 1979 it sounded that good .
I thought her top was brilliant too ( it ’ s a woman thing ). From a distance , it looked like a T-shirt , but it actually had skin-coloured sleeves . Great to cover 70 + year-old arms .
Lewis Capaldi
I am ashamed to say that Lewis Capaldi has not really been on my radar thus far , so I was intrigued to see his set at Glasto . I was totally moved . First , can I applaud the crowd ? The love they showed was incredible and for me , confirmed the changing face of pop .
People are starting to care less and less about looks and more and more about talent and it is beautiful to witness . Of course , prejudice is still rife but there is a movement breaking through . I have already mentioned Ed Sheeran and Lizzo not looking typical and now we have Mr Capaldi . Creative people who don ’ t conform to the ‘ you have to look a certain way to make it ’ tradition that cripples our industry .
His performance was great . Sadly , because of his mental health , the slight issue with his voice played on his mind and he began unnecessarily apologising for it . In turn that raised his anxiety , and he lost control . The crowd were having none of it and showed him just how special he was by singing the songs for him . Beautiful , just beautiful . I am sure he will look back at the recording and feel the love . Let ’ s hope it carries him through the bad times .
ELTON JOHN
Sir Elton John
We now come to the finale . Sir Elton John , enter , rather wobbly , stage right . I have seen Elton a good few times over the years and he has always delivered . Tonight , was no exception .
He really highlights my point made earlier about Axle Rose . He has lost his falsetto so instead of screeching and missing the note , he sings under the note . Other than that , his voice was superb and his piano playing sublime .
He pumped out hit after hit with a band that has been with him forever and it showed . It could have been the records themselves it was so good .
GUNS N ROSES
I didn ’ t think he needed the guests , but it is always good to have variety . I was surprised that Grohl didn ’ t get up , he seemed to get up with everybody else !
It was a fitting end to a fabulous career and a send-off to echo that . It must be wonderful to know that you have brought so much joy to people around the world , through your natural talent . The money is lovely , but to give that gift to the world is really something .
Elton John ’ s songs have been present throughout my life . Helping me through good and bad times . I even sang a few over the years , my favourite being ‘ Don ’ t Let the Sun ’ and it was lovely that he paid tribute to George Michael on this one , as for me , it was the absolute best version when the two sang together .
Well Glastonbury , you have done it again . You have produced some amazing music , reunited us with some old friends , and introduced us to new talent . See you next year .
