HILLBARK PLAYERS TO WOW AT ROYDEN PARK WITH JULIUS CAESAR
Hillbark Players are thrilled to announce their upcoming production of Shakespeare ’ s classic play Julius Caesar directed by the NODA award-winning Ruth Stenhouse and Stuart Rathe .
This play is arguably one of the most famous plays of all time , and it explores the themes of loyalty , betrayal and power . The story is set in Rome and follows the conspiracy against Julius Caesar , the leader of the Roman republic .
The Hillbark Players are known for delivering exceptional openair performances in Royden Park , Wirral and this one will be no exception . From the 19th - 24th June they will bring Shakespeare ’ s works to life with an engaging and interesting spin .
The Soothsayer and the Ides of March are two significant elements in Julius Caesar . The Soothsayer , played brilliantly by Hillbark stalwart Pauline Garland warns Caesar to ‘ Beware the Ides of March ’ she has foreseen his death on this day …. Does he heed her warning ?
‘ The Ides ’ fall on the 15th day of March in the Roman calendar and were based on the phases of the moon . Traditionally associated with the festival of Lupercalia , an ancient Roman fertility rite , which was believed to ward off evil spirits and ensure fertility and good fortune .
For Hillbark Players The Ides of March 2023 , started the celebration of the up and coming Hillbark production . They launched a Wirral wide Ides of March postcard campaign , so if you ’ ve seen one of those cards you now know what it ’ s all about !

Co-director Stuart Rathe commented , ‘ The ‘ Beware the Ides ’ campaign aimed to spread the word throughout the Wirral in a teasing , leading way to create interest in the play on such a key date in history . With its timeless themes and enduring relevance , we believe it will resonate with audiences of all ages ’.
Co-director Ruth Stenhouse , expressed her excitement about the up and coming show , stating , ‘ We can ’ t wait to see our production come to life on stage , the casting is excellent and the set and lighting design is phenomenal . We are confident that our loyal Hillbark audiences will love it !’
