WELCOME TO SPIRE MURRAYFIELD HOSPITAL
Spire Murrayfield Hospital , Wirral has been part of the community since 15th September 1982 and will be celebrating its 40th birthday next year .
Wirral Life caught up with Director , Ben White to find out more about the hospital and its facilities .
Our purpose is ‘ Making a positive difference to our patients ’ lives through outstanding personalised care ’ and we have been delivering this to the Wirral community for almost 40 years .
The hospital has 18 Consulting rooms and all our doctors are Consultant level . We have 3 theatres plus a minor ops theatre and carry out surgery for both private and NHS patients – specialties include Orthopaedics ( hip and knee replacement , spinal surgery , upper limb ( shoulders , elbows , hands along with foot and ankle surgery ), General Surgery for example hernias and gall bladder , breast surgery for cancer , urology , gastroenterology , gynaecology and ophthalmology and ENT .
We have a specialist Rapid Access Breast Clinic several times per week and benefit from the only Brevera Vacuum Assisted Biopsy equipment in the North West . The Brevera System is designed to save time by combining multiple steps into one . Conventional stereotactic procedures require eight steps while the Brevera System allows clinicians to perform biopsies in just three steps :
• Automated specimen collection : Reduces procedure time for more efficient working .
• Patient satisfaction : Faster procedures means less time under compression , which can result in a more positive biopsy experience .
• Images of the biopsy are available immediately .
Supporting the Surgeons are a number of services including dedicated wound care & infection prevention services ,
radiology including MRI and CT scanning to provide fast diagnosis of conditions including cancer , on site-pharmacy and a high quality physiotherapy service with a dedicated rehabilitation gym . We have a team of committed housekeepers and catering colleagues to ensure the hospital is clean and our patients nutritional needs are met while they are with us . We have recently undergone a refurbishment of the patient bedrooms with new beds , upgraded bathrooms and decoration and we are just about to embark on a full refurbishment of our reception area .
We supported the NHS throughout the pandemic to ensure patients could still have urgent surgery and have treated almost 5000 NHS patients since the start of the pandemic . We continue to support the NHS in addressing waiting lists with patients waiting for elective surgery being transferred to our care for their surgery and follow up treatment .
I am extremely proud that we ’ ve been able to invest in the hospital and its services for the benefit of the community . We are absolutely committed to making sure our patients can have fast access to diagnosis and treatment , and I am very pleased that all of the dedication and commitment of our staff , together with the investment we have made , have resulted in good outcomes for patients and high levels of satisfaction .
To keep patients and colleagues safe , we take infection control measures seriously to ensure we remain COVID-19 secure .
As the risk and threat of Covid-19 remains , it is critical that we create environments that are as clinically safe as possible so everyone feels confident about coming into and working in our hospital .
Everyone who enters our hospital , patient , consultant and colleagues are provided with the appropriate PPE to wear during their visit or working day at Spire Murrayfield .
