WIRRAL’ S VISITOR ECONOMY TO MOVE FORWARD THROUGH PARTNERSHIP
WIRRAL’ S VISITOR ECONOMY TO MOVE FORWARD THROUGH PARTNERSHIP
Tourism in Wirral is set to receive a massive boost following the launch of the new Visitor Economy Strategy 2017-20.
The initiative will build on Wirral’ s existing successful assets, in addition to growing the number of businesses operating in its visitor economy to enhance the quality and diversity of Wirral’ s offer. The strategy will concentrate on driving growth to reach £ 450 million visitor annual expenditure and increase visitor numbers to over 9 million by 2020.
Following the launch event at The Village Hotel in July, Wirral Council, Wirral Chamber of Commerce and the Wirral Visitor Economy Network( WVEN), will now build partnerships with key sector stakeholders such as hoteliers, restaurants and attractions from across Wirral and further afield.
A new Visitor Economy delivery team will be based within the Wirral Chamber of Commerce to develop a marketing strategy, which will include:
• A digital destination venue directory hosted on Visit Wirral;
• A 3 year business plan to attract more conferences, exhibitions and events;
• An established destination lead for conference & corporate events;
• Marketing, research and bidding opportunities;
• Partnerships supporting product packaging and development of themed itineraries for the travel trade;
• Commercially led events model to focus on key events space in Wirral.
Paula Basnett, CEO, Wirral Chamber of Commerce is confident that the initiative will achieve growth in developing the visitor economy, she said,“ The Wirral Visitor Economy Strategy will help us focus and build on our key assets and drive us forward so we can grow this important sector for the benefit of local businesses and residents.”
Councillor Phil Davies, Leader of Wirral Council added,“ The Visitor Economy Strategy is a key part of our plans to grow Wirral’ s economy. Wirral Chamber of Commerce will play a pivotal role in delivering the strategy with the aim of attracting more visitors, jobs and investment to the Borough.”
