Lean in and Lead

This year ’ s Young Alumni Chapel and Dinner , which was held on November 22 , featured a Chapel Talk by Daniel Conde ’ 07 . Daniel , who has worked for several years with our Horizons at Saint David ’ s program and is a Co-Chair of their Junior Advisory Board , encouraged all to stay connected with the school , be supportive and respectful of each other and all in their networks , to lean in and lead . “ Be the leader that you can be and be the leader that you will be . This is my call to you to lead . Everyone in this room has the ability to lead ; and we are in a time when we need more leaders in our community . We need to strengthen our community beyond Saint David ’ s .”
More than 100 graduates from the Classes of 2019-2022 attended , along with the current eighth grade ( Class of 2023 ). Following the 2022 Legacy Gift Dedication ( the unveiling of the refurbished chapel organ *), everyone came together for dinner in Hyman Hall to conclude a tremendous evening of events .
It is believed that around 1920 , the organ was sold to the Hearst Collection . Thirty-some years later in the mid-1950s , Mrs . William Randolph Hearst Jr . sought out Saint David ’ s School for her two sons , William Randolph Hearst III , a member of the Class of ‘ 63 , and Austin McDonald Hearst ’ 67 . The Hearsts donated the Chapel ’ s stained glass windows and Flemish-style organ to the school . As we fast forward a century later , the organ has become quite literally the soundtrack of the community and voice of the school . To this day , it is also believed that this very organ is the oldest playable such instrument in North America . The Class of 2022 Legacy Gift ensures tradition is continued through this restoration ; a true Saint David ’ s relic .
