N-YHS Partnership for History Lessons
The New-York Historical Society partners with Saint David ’ s School for history units in the Lower School . In Grade Two , the boys explored early Manhattan , “ Manahatta ,” as they learned about the resourceful Lenape tribe during the fall . In Grade Three ’ s unit on Westward Expansion , boys stepped into the shoes of 19th century pioneers who worked together to overcome hardships in search of a better life .
In our school ’ s partnership with the New-York Historical Society , the boys ’ understanding is deepened through hands-on learning experiences that feature an art component .
Enhanced Math Program in Lower School
Boys in Pre-K through Grade One are learning math in newly engaging ways , using colorful manipulatives to play fun games ( math dice , spinner , and unifix cube ) and participating in activities like building a bike pattern chart — in which boys make construction paper bikes as an example of something that comes in twos — in order to develop math skills . The school ’ s enhanced mathematics curriculum in Pre-K through Grade One aims to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts and increase skill proficiency .
