Where did it go wrong ?
1 . Lore Gone Wrong
SLAS TIMES 16
Natlan ’ s lore had been hyped up for many years , but the update threw it all away . How can you possibly call it the nation of war when it ’ s more like something out of My Little Pony “ Friendship is Magic ” series or Pokémon ? It felt like Mihoyo forgot their own story .
2 . Boring Characters
The characters
used to be one of Genshin ’ s strongest points , fans would spend millions to donate and get their favorite characters , but now they just feel … bland . Everyone ’ s saving up for the old characters . The designs are uninspired , and the personalities aren ’ t memorable . For me , it actually feels like Genshin Impact is transforming into another Honkai game . I used to get excited about pulling for new characters , but now I don ’ t even care , I ’ m just saving up for Zhong Li I guess .
3 . Ignoring the fans
One of the worst things is how Mihoyo seems to ignore the community . The feedback about Natlan has been brutal , especially in China . But instead of listening , the developers just keep making bad decisions and adding more Pokémons ...
What happened to Genshin Impact ? A game with such a high reputation ? How did it go from being one of the most loved games in the world to one of the most criticized and hated games ? The 5.2-5.4 updates were supposed to take the game to new heights , but instead , it seems like Genshin impact received tons of hate . Let ’ s see where it all starts .
When Genshin Impact first came out on September 28 , 2020 , it was everywhere . You could play with multiple characters at a time , and each had their own unique powers tied to one of the seven elements : fire-pyro , icecryo , grass-dendro , water-hydro , electricity-electro , rock-geo or wind-anemo . The world of Teyvat was huge and had various beautiful landscapes just like on Earth . Every six weeks ,
Mihoyo dropped new updates with new content — new characters , events , and areas to explore . When my brother introduced this game to me , I realized , it wasn ’ t just a game ; it was an obsession . Well , at least for me . I would spend hours every day leveling up my characters , solving the chest puzzles , and exploring new areas of the Teyvat map . It felt like an adventure that would never end .
By 2024 , Genshin Impact had become one of the most popular games in the world , especially in Asia . It had an average of 64 million active players every month , which is insane . Everyone wanted to be part of the fan base . Genshin Impact merch got sold out within hours , and cosplayers were everywhere . From the Hydro Archon ’ s shocking sacrifice in Fontaine to the incredible design of the underwater world , Genshin kept being on top of the world . But unfortunately , nothing lasts forever , and after the Fontaine update , it felt like Genshin Impact started to lose its popularity
