Christmas Eve-Christmas
carols (December 24th)
On the December 23rd we light fires around the city
in order to make the atmosphere warm for the birth of
Jesus. People gather around the fire, they roast meat
and they sing and dance.
On Christmas Eve in the morning, groups of students
go from house to house and they sing Christmas carols.
People give them money and sweets. Women prepare
special sweets which are called “melomakarona and
kourabiethes”. At night people gather at their houses
along with family and friends and they celebrate. They
usually have big meals.
