Ahh, windmills. Holland is
renowned for its beautiful
landscapes dotted with
windmills. For most of us,
they are whimsical and
fabulous to look at, but in
the Netherlands they serve
a very practical purpose. If
you’re interested in learning
about windmills, cheese,
and traditional clog-
making, the Netherlands
Open Air Museum is not
to be missed. Set against
a beautiful blue sky and
pastoral landscape, the
paddles turn. Tour buses are
available and run frequently
throughout the morning
and afternoon. This is one
of my favorite things to do
while in Amsterdam. The
air is fresh, the cheese is
round, and the souvenirs
are plentiful. Plus, there’s a
very good coffee bar. Henk Monster
