Visitors to the museum, are greeted by
enthusiastic volunteers that are eager
to share that history, along with facts,
and maybe a little folklore, of the wall-
to-wall memorabilia. One of the most
fascinating things to experience is the
telegraph room, where real telegraph
equipment is on display along with
manuals and a two-piece telephone.
It’s enlightening to see how far we’ve
come technologically, to see the
telegraph system that was used to
keep the rails safe. Trained telegraph
operators would send specific signals
to insure that tracks were clear and
free from accidents.
In addition to the telegraph room,
you can see what it would have been
like to be a passenger, riding the rails.
There is a large collection of china and
silverware used in dining cars, tickets,
train schedules, conductor hats and
more. The walls of the museum are
covered with photographs, signage,
signals and art to show how the
