While having this conversation , Bob and I are both drinking some dark Kraken rum . This stuff is amazing , I love the spiced and vanilla flavors that dark rums have , and the Kraken is really special . It ’ s a decently priced one as well . Bob explains that some rums get too boozy ( in other words too strong and bitter ), you only feel alcohol and nothing else . While the Kraken is softer and just nice to casually drink at home in the winter . “ In the winter you want that more complex taste , because you got the time for it anyways .” Whiskey is also one of my favorites . I love to drink bourbons , but in the winter , you ’ re probably looking for a more smokey and dry drink . “ Whiskey is very specific , it ’ s hard for me to make a solid recommendation .” Both Bob and I recommend going to your local liquor store or bar and let them help you . Tell the employee your budget and what tastes you normally like . They ’ ll know what to give you . Bob tells me that where he ’ s from in Friesland they drink spiced bitters , like the German Jägermeister for example . The Dutch have many versions of this such as Berenburg and Schrobbelèr . “ These are made for the harsher and wintery atmosphere , that ’ s how they were created . Sailors took them into the ocean storms .” These liquors are very bitter , very spiced but also sweet . I love bitters and indeed they are a great recommendation .
So guys , don ’ t get too sad about the weather , just have a drink ! Jokes aside , the world of alcohol is extremely interesting and there ’ s no end to how many new drinks you can discover . Every sort of alcoholic drink has its own world , and in this article , I only showed a glimpse . We all love getting drunk sometimes , but my warm winter recommendation is to also try out more casual complex drinks , as Bob said - we got the time for it anyways . You won ’ t regret it . Proost !
