Krav Maga is a self-defense system developed for the Israel Defense Forces ( IDF ) to maximize your impact and minimize your risk in a self-defense situation . It combines practical techniques from various Martial Arts to defend on your feet or on the ground . In this 8-week class , students will experience firsthand their own power , strength , and resilience in a safe and disciplined atmosphere .
For nearly 25 years , Mark Winn has taught his students diligence , decisiveness and self-awareness , spelling the difference between going home safely and becoming a victim . Mark holds certifications and honors with the Federation of Israeli Martial Arts , Training for Warriors , and sports and nutrition associations such as NASM , ISSA and FMS .

A Matter of Balance
Instructors : VCU Health Ages : Adult ( 60 + suggested ) 8-week session • Group Exercise Studio
A Matter of Balance is an evidenced-based , award-winning program designed to help older adults reduce their fear of falling , increase confidence , and improve activity levels . Coaches from VCU Health lead interactive sessions to include group discussion , gentle exercise , and practice of problem-solving strategies to reduce the risk of falling . Participants learn :
• To view falls and the fear of falling as controllable
• To set realistic goals for increasing activity
• To change their environment to reduce fall risk hazards
• To promote exercise to increase strength , coordination , and balance
This isn ’ t just a group exercise class — it ’ s a blend of discussion and moderate exercise .
Participants should wear loose-fitting , comfortable clothing , stable footwear such as sneakers , and be able to walk and stand . The use of walking aids such as canes and walkers is allowed .

Strength Training for Adult Runners
Instructor : Sarah Kostyukovsky Ages : 18 + • 8-week session • Banks Gym
Do you feel like something is missing from your running program ? Would you like to improve your running form and gain appropriate strength and flexibility for injury prevention ? This low-impact , 55-minute class will focus on the strength , stability and mobility required for running . Taught by a physical therapist who specializes in orthopedics and women ’ s health , Sarah will guide you through a series of movements and exercises specifically for runners . From ankle strength and stability to spinal mobility , this specialized class will be a full body workout that will make you a stronger and more efficient runner . Appropriate for any running level and training program . Can be completed with and will complement a halfmarathon / marathon training schedule .
Attendees will progress through this 8-week class with individualized attention and lots of education on injury prevention . Everyone will finish the course knowing what to focus on in their exercise programs for continued gains .
Sarah Kostyukovsky found an early passion for movement , fitness and the human body through sports and her studies . She majored in kinesiology at the University of Virginia and completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Columbia University .
After 17 years working and living in New York City , Sarah has returned to Virginia with her husband and 3 boys . After rehabbing countless patients through sports and fitness injuries , Sarah ’ s passion for exercise has evolved to functional movement and injury prevention . She is excited to share her knowledge and love for movement through group teaching !
