He also was recertified as Station Watchstander under new guidelines that same year .
When his Flotilla needed a Publications Officer , Andy stepped up to the plate even though he was out of his comfort zone . In 1994 , he was recognized by being awarded the District 5NR Publication Award as Editor of Best Division Newsletter .
In recognition of his 35 assists , four lives saved and 400 hours on patrol , Assimos was selected as the first Auxiliarist of the Year for Group Eastern Shore in 1998 . Rear Adm . Timothy Riker presented the award ( see below and top of the next page ).
He was the recipient of the Award of Operational Merit , USCG Auxiliary in May of 1999 ( See next page , bottom picture ).
