As Andy stated , it was going to be up to the Auxiliary Crews to win over the active-duty Coast Guard ’ s respect and confidence when it came to operations in the 1960 ’ s . Obviously based on the following letter ( Left ), Andy had made significant inroads in achieving that objective .
Now some specifics on Andy ’ s USCG Auxiliary Career
Andy lives in Rehoboth Beach Delaware , and as previously mentioned , joined the Auxiliary in 1960 . Over the years , he held a wide variety of both elected and appointed offices and received recognition but operations was his passion . He served as District Operations Officer from 1966 to 1971 . During his tenure , he was instrumental in the training of new boat crewmembers as well as expanding the number of facilities and patrols in both the 3SR and the upper Chesapeake Bay .
While in this position , he took considerable pride in having the National organization establish the Flotilla Operations Achievement award .
He completed the newly established operational training requirements and was designated AUXOP in 1971 .
He was qualified as Coast Guard crew on 44-foot , 41-foot , and Non-Standard Boat in 1991 ( see picture on the next page ). That was quite an achievement considering all the requirements he had to meet .
