Olivia will participate in YLX-Leadership Skills. Jessica and Jasmine will participate in YLX-Youth in Action. Each October, 45 high school sophomores and juniors are chosen from a pool of applications for Leadership Skills and another 45 are chosen for Youth in Action. This year, over 200 students applied. The students in these classes represent 33 metro area high schools. Over the course of the year, participants will attend class sessions, one opening retreat and one closing retreat. Topics explored during each class will encompass areas of leadership skills, personal growth, community needs and ways to meet those needs. This is a very prestigious award and she certainly deserves this honor. Amber has gone above and beyond to work with our employees to raise money for this year’s United Way campaign. Amber will be attending the United Way Early Bird Reception at Cole’s Garden in OKC. Student Sponsorship Opportunities Help Unlock a Child’s Potential As public charter schools in the state of Oklahoma, ASTEC Charter High School and ASTEC Charter Middle School receive less state funding than do their public school counterparts. To even out this budgetary discrimination, we seek private charitable contributions to help us provide students with the best learning environment possible and this includes faculty, facilities, equipment and supplies. If you would like to help, please consider sponsoring a student for $500 annually. For less than $1.37 a day, you can help one of our 750 students have access to an education that would otherwise not be available. To sponsor a student, use the gift remittance envelope in this newsletter.
