Students, Employees Receive Recognition
(Pictured above) Sixth grader Monique Cardoza, is a
student in Mr. Justin Perkins’ class was announced as
the state essay winner in the NASA contest, Cassini
Scientist for a Day.
She and Mr. Perkins were
surprised and presented with
certificates, a cash prize and
big congratulations at school by
Dorinda Risenhoover,
Education Coordinator for the
Oklahoma NASA Space.
All 6th graders prepared essays
for the contest. The three best
essays from each of Mr. Perkins’
technology classes were selected
and entered the statewide competition. The NASA Space Grant
Consortium will submit the top
10 percent of all statewide essay
entries to the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory (JPL) in California
where scientists will read them and choose a winner to be a
Scientist for a Day.
Fourteen 6th grade student scholars were chosen as part of
the top 10 percent in the whole state and their essays were
sent in to JPL.

Minh Ton, Jasmine Murray, Rodney Walker, Antonio Franco, and Andrea Bonilla for being accepted into
the 2013-2014 Junior Rotarian Program, Rotary Club of
Oklahoma City, Club 29. We are so proud of these student
scholars.
(Pictured above right) Our 6th grade student scholars are
using advanced technology in Ms. Karissa Pacione’s
mathematics classroom: Texas Instruments’ Nspire Navigator for networked computers. We are currently the only
school in Oklahoma using this technology.
(Pictured left) High School junior,
Yanderi Barrios, participated in Mid-America
Christian University’s MACU MASH on October
10th and 11th and was awarded a MASH Scholarship in the amount of $500.
Mid-America Christian University hosts the
MACU MASH campus weekend each year to allow
prospective students to tour the campus, interact
with faculty, experience student-led chapel services and learn about the University’s application
process.
