Giving Machines shine in Downtown Daybreak
Downtown Daybreak became a place not just for gathering— but for giving. In December, the Light the World Giving Machines opened for the first time in Downtown Daybreak, marking the initiative’ s debut in the south end of the Salt Lake Valley. Community leaders, partners and residents gathered to celebrate the launch and kick off the season of giving in a meaningful way.
Located near the ice rink, the Giving Machines offered a simple yet powerful gift-giving experience. Through the machines, users purchase essential goods and services, such as meals, warm clothing, medical care, educational supplies and shelter support, that are then donated directly to local and global nonprofit organizations.
The opening event began with a generous gesture from the Miller family, who purchased one of every item available in the machines, supporting families and individuals in need across multiple causes. Their leadership set the tone for a season rooted in service, generosity, and community impact.
“ This is a special time of year, especially in the giving community,” said Don Stirling, executive director of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation.“ We hope to encourage our friends and neighbors to share their light, love and resources with others.”
The Downtown Daybreak Giving Machines joined thousands of machines worldwide across 21 countries, 126 cities, and six continents— connecting South Jordan to a global movement of generosity while supporting causes close to home. The Daybreak machines were the 11th most utilized in the world, according to initial reports from Bonneville Communications.
