Stuff for Students Reaches Milestone Anniversary
F
or the past five years, Larry H. Miller
Dealerships, Denver’s 9NEWS, and Volunteers
of America Colorado Branch have partnered
in hosting the “Stuff for Students” school supply
drive during the month of August. The goal of
the campaign is to help ease the financial burden
that low-income families and teachers face in
preparing children for the school year.
“The donated school
supplies…make a real
difference in helping
children to succeed in
the classroom.”
Bradley Gulley
Volunteers of America Colorado
In the Denver Public School system, there are
more than 90,000 students enrolled, with over
60,000 of those students participating in the free/
reduced lunch program. Since 2015, Larry H.
Miller Dealerships have collected $75,000 in
school supplies, and the campaign has collected
close to $230,000 in school supplies that have
benefited more than 200,000 Colorado students.
“The start of the school year is an important
time for kids. They want to be ready to learn,
and they want to fit in with a new backpack full
of supplies,” explained Bradley Gulley, director
of volunteer services, Volunteers of America
Colorado. “For children living in poverty, a lack
of resources can prevent them from having the
supplies they need to be successful. The donated
school supplies from Larry H. Miller Dealerships
and their customers make a real difference in
helping children to succeed in the classroom.” ◆
