The Salt Lake Bees wrapped up a 30-year run at Smith ’ s Ballpark with the final game at the stadium on September 22 .
Local sports legend , Frank Layden , led the crowd in singing “ Take Me Out to the Ball Game ” during the seventh inning stretch .
The 2024 season was a season-long tribute to the Ballpark and the nearly 100-year history of professional baseball having been played on the same site at the corner of 1300 South and West Temple . The team celebrated with throwback nights to the Occidentals , 50s Bees , Salt Lake Angels , Gulls , Trappers , Buzz and Stingers . On the final week of the season , the Bees gave away pennants , posters and commemorative tickets .
The Bees second-half playoff push fell short in the final week of the season , but that didn ’ t stop over 10,000 people attending the final three games at Smith ’ s Ballpark , including 13,450 on Sunday afternoon for the final game .
After the last out , Bees manager Keith Johnson led the team out for a tip of the cap to the nearly sold-out crowd . Those in attendance were invited down to run the bases one final time and were able to take a bag of authentic Smith ’ s Ballpark dirt home to remember the occasion .
The Bees ’ time at Smith ’ s Ballpark has ended , but the 2025 season is right around the corner . Opening Day at Daybreak Field at America First Square is scheduled for April 8 , 2025 , against the Reno Aces .
Construction crews at the site in South Jordan have been working around the clock to finish the new stadium with the final beam having been placed in September and the playing field ( including sod ) and final concrete pours were completed by the end of October .
