Nick Robbins , managing director of Miller Family Services , spoke to the Standard-Examiner about his experience on a D2T field study and highlighted the difference between reading about historic sites and seeing them in person .
“ Experiencing the moments of American history in the locations and sites where they took place adds an element of humanity to the experience ,” Nick said . “ Participants can call upon all of their senses to better synthesize what happened and gain an understanding of the people who are connected to these events .”
Those who participated in a Driven 2 Teach field study also received college credit from Weber State University and presented their plans for implementing their field study curriculum in their classroom to the Miller family at an event in August .
“ Bringing teachers to these historic places enriches their teaching and allows them to immerse themselves in our nation ’ s history ,” said Libby Robertson , director of Driven 2 Teach . “ By experiencing history firsthand , teachers ignite a love for learning in their students that extends far beyond the classroom .”
This year ’ s Driven 2 Teach participants studied the Civil Rights Movement in South Carolina , Georgia and Alabama and the founding of the United States in Philadelphia , Boston , Washington , D . C . and more .
