Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation

Investing in Utah’ s Westside

The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation awarded more than $ 500,000 to over 38 nonprofit organizations through its Westside Community Grant Initiative in 2024. The grants program, piloted last year, support critical needs across the Miller Family Foundation’ s five giving platforms: health and medicine, shelter and food security, education and skill development, jobs and economic self-reliance, and cultural and spiritual enrichment. Projects range from youth programs and small business support to food access and leadership development.

Intermountain Health joined the effort as a supporting donor, contributing over $ 175,000 to help fund 17 of the grantees, amplifying the impact even further.“ We are proud to support the Westside Community Grant Initiative alongside the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation,” said Lisa Nichols, vice president of Community Health at Intermountain Health.“ Our shared commitment to addressing social drivers of health and improving access to care is vital for fostering healthier, more resilient communities.”
Organizations like Centro Cívico Mexicano, Comunidad Materna, Club Ability, and the Westside Leadership Institute have already put these grants to work, creating sustainable, community-driven change.
“ The response to the Westside Community Grant Initiative has been inspiring, and we are encouraged by the incredible work happening across Salt Lake City’ s west side,” said Julie Ramos, managing director of the Miller Family Foundation.“ It’ s an honor to support organizations that drive meaningful change, and we look forward to seeing the lasting impact these investments will have in strengthening and uplifting the community.”

A New Chapter in Mental Health: Utah’ s First Crisis Care Center

In partnership with the Huntsman Mental Health Institute and other local organizations, Utah opened its first Comprehensive Crisis Care Center in South Salt Lake. This new facility offers 24 / 7 walk-in mental health support, giving individuals in crisis a safe, judgment-free place to get immediate help.
The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation joined other philanthropic partners in supporting this effort, contributing $ 3.5 million toward the building of the state-of-the-art center. This gift reflects the foundation’ s ongoing commitment to strengthening communities by addressing urgent needs— including access to mental health care. The new center’ s second floor— which will house critical services such as financial assistance, legal aid, dental care and other community programs— will be named the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Integrated Healing & Innovation Floor.
