In April 2024 , the Larry H . Miller Company unveiled the Barbara Tobler Mailroom in honor of one of its longest-tenured employees , who has made an incredible mark on the organization and the Miller family .
Gail Miller delivers Utah State University commencement and receives honorary degree
Barbara Tobler has been with the Larry H . Miller Company for 28 years and was recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer . During her time with our company , she served in various positions and worked directly with company founder Larry H . Miller before his passing in 2009 .
In May , Gail Miller delivered Utah State University ’ s 2024 commencement address and stressed the importance of being a lifelong learner , teacher and leader . She also received an honorary doctorate from the university in recognition to her commitment to making positive changes in the world .
Gail shared insights from her life and business experience , highlighting one of the guiding principles of the Larry H . Miller Company — ‘ be a student , be a teacher , be a leader .’ “ It ’ s a cycle , a repeating process that ’ s interchangeable ,” Gail told the students . “ Lead with love , and success will follow .”
In her speech , she also emphasized that progress is not linear but a cycle where one learns to be flexible , hone their skills , and gather the knowledge to teach and serve others .
Gail ’ s advice to the new graduates stemmed not only from her decades of philanthropic and business experience , but from a recent medical procedure where she was told to not bend , lift or twist as she recovered .
She told the graduates that everything we do requires bending , lifting , or twisting , and those skills are key to success . “ You have just completed a big job and a wonderful journey — but in reality , this is just the beginning . The world is before you , and it is waiting for your influence . Don ’ t forget to bend , lift and twist !”
The new plaque outside the mailroom bears her photo and a nod to her alma mater , Brigham Young University . The quote reads , “ Enter to copy , go forth to love ,” encapsulating the way she lives her life with her heart open .
