ten years of elevating women in the workplace

Since 2015 , the Women ’ s Leadership Institute ( WLI ) has worked to elevate the status of women and create more gender-friendly companies across the state of Utah . Earlier this year , WLI held a special event and press conference to celebrate this milestone .
Gail Miller and the LHM Company have supported WLI from its beginning . The organization was created to help Utah increase the number of women in toplevel corporate positions through three focused leadership courses .
Every year , the Larry H . Miller Company and its business platforms sponsor a group of 15 employees in the Rising Leader Series and Career Development Series , allowing them to connect with other female leaders in the state and further their skill development .

PROMOTING INCLUSION AND A CULTURE OF BELONGING

By Michelle Smith

To celebrate Women ’ s History Month , The Larry H . Miller Company and the Gail Miller Women ’ s Leadership Group held a panel celebrating inclusion in the workplace .

I was joined by Nicole Tanner , founder of Swig , and LHM Company executives Amanda Covington , Chief Corporate Affairs Officer , Sarah Starkey , Chief Legal Officer , and CEO Steve Starks .
We discussed best practices to promote inclusion in the workplace , serving as champions for coworkers , and shared life experiences that allow us to be our best selves in life and at work .
Each member of our team is juggling responsibilities at work and at home . Several years ago I learned a valuable lesson from Cynt Marshall , CEO of the Dallas Mavericks . She shared an analogy of juggling the crystal and rubber balls of life . The crystal balls cannot drop , but it ’ s okay to drop the rubber balls and have them bounce until we are ready to pick them back up . I love this analogy because it reinforces the importance of knowing what ’ s most important and being vulnerable to share with others our crystal balls .
Uplifting and encouraging women and men in the workplace has been a cornerstone of our organization since its inception , and I ’ m proud to work for a company that focuses on creating a culture of belonging and recognizes the vital role we all play in shaping our company and our communities .
