tah’s motto “Life elevated” has expanded
into the competitive sports scene. Th e
Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) global
cycling federation announced that the Larry H.
Miller Tour of Utah (TOU) cycling stage race
has been selected to join the men’s professional
road cycling UCI ProSeries.
Th e UCI has three separate divisions: UCI
WorldTour (includes Tour de France), UCI
ProSeries (which now includes TOU), and
the foundational UCI Continental Circuits.
Now that TOU is elevated to ProSeries status,
more riders—including top-tier riders from
WorldTour teams—will swarm the beehive state
to get a taste of “America’s Toughest Stage Race.”
“Th e consistent quality of the race, the
start-to-fi nish streaming of each stage, and the
incredibly challenging and picturesque courses
that showcase Utah are second to none,” said
Sean Petty, UCI Road Commission member.
“We’re excited that the Tour of Utah has
been designated as a UCI ProSeries event,” said
Chuck Hodge, USA Cycling Chief of Racing
and Events. “As a crowd favorite and one of the
most successful races on U.S. soil, elevating
the event to this level will provide great
opportunities for U.S. riders and reward a very
supportive cycling community.”
Th e host venues along the route for TOU
2020 will be announced at a later date, but the
dates of August 3–9, 2020, have been set aside
for the next thrilling installment of this world-
class cycling challenge.
