FNZ UTAH JAZZ HOST MULTIMEDIA ANTI-BULLYING PROGRAM With the help of 3D glasses technology and remote voting controls, more than 200 sixth-graders at Eastmont Middle School in Sandy had a unique lesson on bullying. The Utah Jazz, along with former player Thurl Bailey and the Jazz Stunt Team, hosted an assembly in partnership with multimedia experts from Life Changing Experiences in October as part of National Bullying Prevention Month. The interactive program, Free2B, featured 3D technology designed to help the students with empathy awareness and problem-solving skills. The event focused on different types of bullying including physical, verbal, and cyberbullying, as well as provide tools to report and offer assistance to those who experience bullying. Bailey highlighted the presentation with his own personal story on bullying and motivating words to the students on unity and togetherness. BEE JAZZ PLAYERS SURPRISE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Rather than hosting the annual Open Scrimmage at Vivint Smart Home Arena this season, the Utah Jazz held the event in a very unconventional location. The team surprised the students of Granger High School in West Valley City by holding the scrimmage in the school’s gymnasium. It was one assembly that Granger’s student body never saw coming—and one they will never forget. Without any idea what was about to happen, the students were dismissed from their afternoon classes and called down to the gymnasium. After gathering in the gym, the students were treated to a surprise visit from some of their favorite NBA stars plus Jazz Bear, America First Jazz Dancers, and the Dunk Team. For the players, the look on the students’ faces was priceless. “They were saying to keep it a secret this whole week. We did,” said point guard Dante Exum. “I’m pretty sure they didn’t know until the moment we walked out.” It was a thrilling experience that the students of Granger High School will always remember. “If we come and do something like this, it only makes them Jazz fans and makes them want to come and watch us play during the season,” said Exum. “Hopefully, we made some Jazz fans.”
