PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UTAH FOOD BANK HELPS FIGHT CHILD HUNGER More than 1,900 pounds of food were collected during the Larry H. Miller Dealerships’ Fight Child Hunger campaign. Throughout the month of September, dealership locations across Utah collected juice boxes, peanut butter, fruit cups, crackers, and granola bars for Utah Food Bank’s BackPack Program, which ensures that children have food to help sustain them during the weekend. While 177,000 students in the state participate in free or reduced-price meal programs during the school week, they often don’t know where their food will come from during the weekend. DEALERSHIPS PROVIDE ARIZONA RESIDENTS WITH KEYS TO CAR SEAT SAFETY Larry H. Miller Dealerships hosted its second annual car seat safety campaign in honor of National Child Passenger Safety Month this September. Aptly named Keys to Car Seat Safety, the campaign is a partnership with Safe Kids Arizona and local police and fire departments across the valley and Tucson. Members of the community were invited to attend free car seat safety checks each Saturday throughout the month. “One in five Utah children don’t know where their next meal will come from. That’s a startling statistic, and we’re determined to do our part to help address this great need in our community,” said MAO Dean Fitzpatrick. Utah dealerships displayed signage educating customers and employees on the need, and with the help of members the community, each store stuffed a car or truck full of essential food items for Utah children. The total amount of food collected allowed Utah Food Bank to stuff 680 backpacks full of food. “In 2015, Utah Food Bank distributed 63,000 backpacks through 35 afterschool sites. With the assistance of Larry H. Miller Dealerships, we can continue to serve these children in need,” said Ginette Bott, chief development officer, Utah Food Bank. During each three-hour event, certified technicians checked car seats and booster seats for proper installation, and parents were shown how to correctly install their seats. If a seat was expired, damaged, or deemed unsafe, a new seat was donated to that family. Larry H. Miller Charities made a $10,000 donation to Safe Kids Arizona to assist in providing donated seats to families in need. “We are intent on doing our part to keep kids safe in the communities we serve, and we hope to provide an outlet for education on proper installation techniques,” said Pat Kroneberger, senior vice president of operations, Miller Automotive Operations. “Our children’s safety is of the utmost importance.” TO THE GIVE US 5 DONATIONS, THE COMPANY HELPED SUPPORT ENRICHING OUR COMMUNITIES: INTHESEADDITION ORGANIZATIONS IN SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER: Sandy Area Chamber Young Entrepreneurs Utah State University Athletics Department Young Life American Red Cross Choral Arts Society of Utah Westminster College YMCA of Northern Utah Cystic Fibrosis Utah Nonprofits Association Sandy Chamber Washington County School District NADA Foundation Tony Finau Foundation Homeless Youth Transformation Safelite Foundation Intermountain Foundation American Red Cross Score Utah Kids Heroes Foundation U of U Department of Physics & Astronomy Utah Nonprofits Association Utah Tibetan Association Cause for Hope Chabad Lubavitch of Utah Envision Utah NAACP Operation Underground Railroad Utah STEM Foundation Catholic Community Services Salt Lake Chamber International Visitors Utah Council
