(NASA), and the Utah Sport Bike Association’s Masters of the Mountains
motorcycle road racing series thrived. The Utah Kart Championship has proudly
seen a number of young racers climb up the ladder to professional racing careers,
and the Utah Region of the Lucas Oil Off Road Regional Racing Series brought
grassroots off-road racing to reality in Utah.
In addition, the Ford Performance Driving School and the Yamaha Champions
Riding School brought many students to Utah seeking to sharpen their skills,
and both schools received high praise from participants, both amateur and
professional alike, as well as national and international media.
The Larry H. Miller Total Performance Museum, which housed Larry’s worldfamous collection of cars associated with the late and legendary Carroll Shelby,
attracted thousands of visitors from around the globe. The Miller family has
every intention to keep
the collection together,
whether in its current
home or at a new venue.
From word-of-mouth to
local media to national
and international broadcasts as well as social-media platforms, racing
enthusiasts everywhere came to know of Miller Motorsports Park as one of
the world’s best racing facilities.
In May of this year, it was announced that the Larry H. Miller Sports and
Entertainment group would not be renewing its lease on the facility. October
31st was the last day of operation as Miller Motorsports Park. Tooele County
has approved the sale of the facility to MiTime Utah Investment, LLC – a
subsidiary of Chinese company Geely Holding Group, one of China’s biggest
automobile manufacturers. MiTime, led by track designer and initial Miller
Motorsports Park general manager Alan Wilson, intends to continue
professional and amateur racing operations and will use the facility –
which will be known as Utah Motorsports Campus – to train workers
for new tracks being planned in China, to manufacture racing cars for
the Chinese market, to establish degree-level educational programs in
advanced automotive
technologies and to serve
as a base for Chinese
tourists to America.
No matter what name
adorns the buildings, no
matter who owns the
facility, everyone who has
ever and will ever enjoy
this outstanding facility owes a debt of gratitude to Larry H. Miller for his passion and
drive, and his desire to share that passion with the world. WS
