CHARITIES
SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015 UPDATE
This year marks the 20th anniversary of
Larry H. Miller Charities. Twenty years ago,
Larry H. Miller’s businesses had already
grown far beyond his first dealership, and
the number of charitable requests had
also risen. To handle donation requests
more efficiently, and to streamline
employee Sub-for-Santa efforts in the Salt
Lake community, a new nonprofit entity,
Larry H. Miller Charities, was created.
On November 9, 1995, a meeting was
held to formally organize LHM Charities.
The original board consisted of one
descendant of Larry H. Miller: Greg Miller;
seven employees of the LHM Group:
Bryant Henrie, David Allred, John Larson,
Patti Balli, Donna Weber, Bill Little and
Karol Elkington; and two members of the
general public: B. Murphy and Darrel Trost.
Today, LHM Charities continues Larry
H. Miller’s legacy of giving back to the
community, as donations are granted to
nonprofit programs that benefit women
and children who live in the communities
where Miller companies conduct business.
A contribution to Childhelp in Phoenix,
Arizona, is providing elementary students
with sexual abuse prevention training, and
a donation to Operation Outreach - USA
is facilitating a children’s literacy program.
Angels on Patrol received funding that law
enforcement personnel are using to help
families in crisis.
A donation in Denver, Colorado, to the
Denver Santa Claus Shop is allowing lowincome parents to select free Christmas
gifts for their children, and funding given
to Goddard Middle School PTO is enabling
low-income students to participate in an
educational trip.
In Albuquerque, a contribution to the
Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico is
providing free support groups for grieving
families.
The holidays will be happier for
underprivileged families in Utah, as Sub
for Santa grants from LHM Charities
are distributed in the following school
districts: Salt Lake, Granite, Ogden, Provo,
Iron County and Washington County.
A separate contribution to Firemen &
Friends for Kids and the Bear Hugs for
Kids program will enable additional lowincome children in Utah to go Christmas
shopping with the Jazz Bear.
Other donations in Utah included funding
to RiteCare of Utah for speech therapy
for children, a grant to the Child & Family
Support Center of Cache County for child
social-emotional development classes,
and a contribution to Tabitha’s Way to
provide coats and blankets to women and
children in need. Box Elder Community
Pantry, Girl Scouts of Utah, Arthritis
Foundation, March of Dimes and Alliance
House also received support.
