Stars Show Development in Debut Season.

rom business to basketball operations,
learning was the byproduct of the first
season for the Utah Jazz NBA D-League
affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars.
“We accomplished many of our first-year
goals,” said Stars general manager Bart Sharp.

“In this transition
season, we were able to
establish an environment
that was consistent with
Jazz basketball,” said Bart
Taylor, vice president of
basketball operations. “All
of our personnel, from
players to the front office,
benefitted from the close
relationship.”
Relocating from
Boise, Idaho, the Stars
made their home on a refurbished court at Salt
Lake Community College in Taylorsville. The
organization leveraged Jazz operations to create
an entertaining atmosphere at the Lifetime
Activities Center-Bruin Arena. Average home
attendance was 1,755 fans for 24 games. All
games were broadcast on Facebook Live.
With their new name, logo, and uniforms,
the Stars played 50 games, compiling a 14-36
record which placed them fifth in the Pacific
Division and 10 th in the Western Conference.
The Stars were the NBA D-League’s fourth best
defensive team in points allowed.
Off the court, the team embraced the
Taylorsville and West Valley City communities
by hosting multiple basketball clinics for youth,
visiting patients at Primary Children’s Hospital
and veterans at the George E. Whalen Veterans
Affairs Medical Center, and participating in
other local events during the season. ◆
