Guest Speaker Dr. Marshall Goldsmith Keynote Speaker General Hugh Shelton
Dr. Goldsmith has worked with CEOs and other
leaders of major corporations for decades. In
his time in the corporate world, he has learned
that while many diff erent types of people
may make it into positions of leadership, only
a select few are able to become truly great
leaders. The key, in his opinion, is to reach out
to understand and appreciate the viewpoints
and insight that your employees might have.
In Dr. Goldsmith’s words, “Successful people
become great leaders when they learn to shift
the focus from themselves to others.” General Shelton is a former chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff . He shared a story of a time when
he was assigned to oversee a group of military
off icers who were expected to clock in and clock
out at designated times and were not given any
sort of farewell when they left or recognition of any
achievements they might have made. Shortly after
arriving, General Shelton made some changes,
such as having going-away parties and printing
simple certificates of achievement. These were not
major changes, but they were enough to increase
productivity and job satisfaction significantly
within his team.
