Former Utah Jazz head coach, Jerry Sloan was honored during a
halftime ceremony on January 31, 2014. Surrounded by his family,
former players, coaches, local dignitaries and the Miller family,
John Stockton, long-time Jazz assistant coach Phil Johnson and
Karl Malone came together to share in the tributes to Jerry Sloan.
The Utah Jazz presented the 2014 Larry H. Miller Youth Scholarship
to University of Utah student Derek Newell during the NAACP Salt
Lake Branch’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Luncheon
on Jan. 20, 2014. Longtime Jazz radio broadcaster/analyst Ron
Boone presented the $3,000 award to Newell on behalf of the Jazz
organization, and Jazz Head Coach Tyrone Corbin and assistant
coaches Sidney Lowe and Michael Sanders were also in attendance.
Funding for the scholarship was provided by Larry H. Miller Charities.
