Gail Miller Honored with Congressional Award
Award Given in Nation’s Capital
G
ail Miller is no stranger to awards, but
a recent honor paid tribute to Gail on
a national scale. During a ceremony in
Washington, D.C., Gail received a prestigious
award. The Horizon Award honors individuals
who “have worked to expand opportunities
for all Americans through their own personal
contributions.” Previous honorees include
Cal Ripken, Jr., Arnold Schwarzenegger, and
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
“Gail embodies the spirit of this award
by demonstrating thought for others in her
decision-making and using her influence to
shape communities for the better,” said Paxton
K. Baker, chairman of The Congressional
Award National Board of Directors. “Gail’s story
is about finding true individuality, and her life’s
work serves as an extraordinary example for our
nation’s youth, particularly young women.”
During the annual ceremony at the US
Capitol, Senator Mitt Romney presented Miller
with the award saying, “Gail is not only a pillar
in our community, she is an example who
serves with grace, and with commitment, and
with personal strength.”
Gail spoke after receiving the award, urging
those present to demonstrate decency in society.
“We need to lead by example and insist that
respect, courtesy, and civility are at the top of
our consciousness, no matter the issue, or the
event,” Miller said. “By working together, we
can eradicate bullying, discrimination and hate,
unsportsmanlike conduct, and intolerance. We
all need to stand up and speak up! You are the
leaders of tomorrow. We are counting on your
innovative ideas, your energy, your compassion,
and your courage to build a strong world.” ◆
