A Utah Jazz Christmas
Christmas Day Game/Season of Giving
Christmas Day had a Utah Jazz flavor with the debut of the new Nike
NBA Earned Edition green uniforms as the Jazz played on Christmas
for the first time since 1997.
Reserved only for teams that made the NBA Playoffs last season, the
special uniforms made their on-court debut on December 25 in a nationally
televised game on ESPN against Portland at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
In the spirit of the Season of Giving, both Utah and Portland players
participated in a toy exchange with youth from the Stella H. Oaks
Foundation, which supports single mothers and their children.
The Utah Jazz were involved with a variety of community events in
the holiday season.
• The Jazz and LHMSE properties delivered 1,200 winter jackets to
19 Wasatch Front schools as part of the company’s annual Coats for
Kids program.
• Ricky Rubio hosted youth from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater
Salt Lake to a Christmas shopping event.
• Jazz players Royce O’Neale and Georges Niang handed out goodie
bags and hosted kids from Neighborhood House at the movies for
Ralph Breaks the Internet at Gateway Megaplex.
• The Jazz celebrated the Third Night of Hanukkah at Jewish Heritage
Night with a cantorial rendition of the National Anthem and a Menorah
lighting ceremony at halftime of a game.
• Salt Lake City Stars players Deonte Burton and Akeem Springs joined
volunteers at the Burrito Project to help serve the homeless.
The Utah Jazz Dancers, meanwhile, visited an assisted-living facility,
volunteered at the Utah Food Bank, and spent time at the Ronald McDonald
House as part of their second-annual 12 Days of Giving program.
Jazz Bear was also in the giving spirit. As part of the NBA’s Season
of Giving, Bear took 180 Logan City School District youth on a holiday
shopping spree at Walmart, courtesy of Larry H. Miller Charities.
“It just shows how much the organization cares,” O’Neale said. “The
fans care about us on the court and want to see us doing well. We love
being able to give back and show our support for them.” ◆

Thanksgiving Meal
Reaching Out to the Less Fortunate
For the 20th year, the “We Care - We Share” Thanksgiving Meal for the
homeless and low-income individuals in Salt Lake City occurred on
the main concourse at Vivint Smart Home Arena in November.
More than 3,000 traditional Thanksgiving meals were served by the
Miller family and Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment employees,
courtesy of Utah Food Services and Salted Honey Hospitality.
“We do this because it is a community effort to give back for what we
get from the community,” said Gail Miller, owner of the LHM Group of
Companies. “We feel so blessed that it’s important for us to help enrich
lives and do what we can to serve those who are underserved.” ◆
